Learning outcomes: This course is intended for those studying under the old degree programme. The aim of this course is to help students become better writers, by clarifying their purpose and by learning to write academic texts with the reader in mind.
Content: The course covers various aspects of writing including planning, organising and drafting texts, the process of writing, using appropriate academic style and significant areas of grammatical difficulty for Finnish students. The topics of writing exercises include a variety of business and economics subjects taken from first year courses.
Learning Material: Materials will be supplied by the lecturer either as handouts for class work , which must be paid for by students, or by posting them on the Wossikka site (under "materiaali")

Teaching / Learning methods: Lectures 24 h, One-to-One Teaching 1 h, Independent Study 30 h. Details: The course will include 1) class and homework exercises on aspects of structure style and language; 2) an individual consultation on writing progress; and 3) essay writing exercises on relevant topics
Teaching Languages: English. Details: Exchange students and others whose first language is not Finnish are very welcome to join the course.
Conduct: 1) full attendance and active participation in the course (min. 18/24h); 2) attendance at an individual consultation on progress; and 3) performance in the assessed essays
Assessment: 0 (Fail) - 5 (Excellent)
Prerequisites: This course should be taken by Business students after completing Reading for Academic Purposes and Academic and Professional English
