Biogeokemia I (6 op / 3.5 ov) |
| Abbreviation: BGK I |
| Content: The course gives knowledge on biogeochemical processes and their importance for the atmospheric gases of the globe. The scale is from microbes to ecosystem and global levels. A key topic is biological
production and consumption of gases (carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide, nitric oxide, nitric oxide) important for atmospheric physics and chemistry. The course will show the links between the biogeochemical processes and environmental/global changes. |
| Learning Material: Material delivered in the course, and following books: T. Fenchel, G.M. King & T.H. Blackburn Bacterial Biogeochemistry, Academic Press, San
Diego, 1998 J.E. Rogers & W.B. Whitman Microbial Production and Consumption of Greenhouse Gases: Methane, Nitrogen oxides, and Halomethanes, American Society for Microbiology, Washington, D.C., 1991. |
| Teaching / Learning methods: Lectures (30 h), self-education (70 h), seminar
(20 h) and final examination. The course belongs to the "Mastersīs Program in Environmental Biology and Biogeochemistry (EBB)". The course is held every second spring, next time in spring 2009. |
