Bioorganic Chemistry (7.5 ects / 5.0 cr)
Bio-orgaaninen kemia (7.5 op / 5.0 ov)
Abbreviation: BOK
Learning outcomes: Knowledge of basics of Nucleic acids chemistry
Content: Being fundamental to molecular biology, nucleic acids chemistry has moved into biology and medicine. The present course covers basics of nucleoside chemistry and chemistry of nucleic acids as well as perspectives of application of these compounds as therapeutics. Synthetic and analytical techniques will be taught in the practical laboratory work, where automated oligonucleotide synthesis will be performed and the resulting products will be isolated by High Performance Liquid Chromatography and thoroughly characterized. The aim of this work is to obtain basic skills for performing the syntheses of oligonucleotides and modified oligonucleotides. The laboratory syntheses are connected to the on-going research projects in the department.
